Al Thuraya Cityscape – Riyadh (2023)

Al Thuraya Cityscape 2023 in Riyadh was built as a complete real estate experience rather than a display wall with a presentation. The centrepiece was a physical 3D-printed city model, four metres by one and a half metres, set into a high-resolution interactive LED table. Visitors selected districts on the table, the corresponding 3D models lit up, and the screen content switched to realistic animations of boats, people and cars moving through the selected district. A giant curved P1.9 LED wall handled the wider narrative, and a custom tablet application on a podium let guests navigate the project themselves.

The Challenge & Objective

Selling a large urban development at exhibition scale means explaining something enormous in a short time, to people who are standing rather than sitting. The stand had to be legible in thirty seconds and rewarding for three minutes — and it had to be driven by the visitor, not by a presenter.

  • Make an enormous masterplan understandable. A full development is impossible to show at true scale, so the experience had to break the project into explorable districts.
  • Combine physical and digital convincingly. The 3D model gave scale and the screen gave life, but only if the two behaved as one object rather than two separate exhibits.
  • Remove the presenter. Guests needed to explore on their own, which meant every explanation had to live inside the interaction instead of being delivered by a host.
  • Build a model accurately and repeatably. A 4m x 1.5m city model with district-level detail has to be dimensionally accurate and durable enough for a full exhibition run.
  • Deliver and install in Riyadh. The build involved a large-format curved LED wall, a fabricated table and a physical model — all needing coordinated logistics into the venue.

Our Solution

We designed the experience as a single system with three layers: a wall for scale, a table for interaction, and a model for substance.

Giant curved LED wall for project renderings

A large curved LED wall running P1.9 pitch gave the stand its visual scale and carried the masterplan renderings and city animation. The curve was chosen because a flat wall reads as a screen, while a curved surface wraps the visitor and makes the development feel like it is surrounding them. P1.9 was the right balance of resolution and viewing distance for guests standing several metres back on a show floor.

Interactive LED table with a 3D-printed city model

The centrepiece was a high-resolution LED table into which a 3D-printed city model was integrated at 4m x 1.5m. The screen surface gave a fine, high-resolution canvas beneath and around the model, and the physical buildings gave the development real presence. When a visitor selected a district, the corresponding 3D models lit up and the table content switched to realistic immersive animations of boats, people and cars moving around that district.

Custom tablet application on a podium

A purpose-built application running on a tablet mounted on a podium let visitors move between the project's different districts themselves. The podium placement means a guest can explore without blocking the next visitor, and the app keeps the interaction self-guided — no host required, and every visitor gets a complete experience.

One visual language across all three elements

Because the wall, table and model are separate physical pieces, the visual design had to unify them. Colour, typography and animation style were shared across the curved LED content, the table content and the app interface, so a visitor moving from the wall to the table feels one continuous project rather than three demonstrations.

Technology & Implementation

Three distinct technologies had to behave as one exhibit, which is where most of the engineering effort went.

P1.9 curved LED wall

The curved array was built, framed and calibrated on site so the renderings held detail across the full width of the curve. Media was pre-compiled and verified before opening so the schedule ran reliably for the duration of the exhibition. This is standard practice for the [large-format LED](/digital-signage-expert-dubai/) work we deliver across the region.

High-resolution interactive LED table and 3D-printed city model

The table combined a fine-pitch interactive LED surface with a physically printed city model at 4m x 1.5m. The model was produced through our [3D printing and rapid prototyping](/services/3d-printing/) capability, dimensioned against the development layout so the physical districts and the on-screen districts matched one to one. Lighting and touch response were tuned so a selected district responded immediately and legibly across the full table.

Custom application development

The tablet application was built specifically for the stand, with district navigation, selection states and content triggers designed for a public audience rather than adapted from an existing product. Every selection the visitor makes maps to both a table animation and a 3D model highlight, which is what makes the physical and digital layers feel connected.

Coordinated build and installation in Riyadh

Three separate builds — curved LED array, interactive table and printed model — were planned as one delivery so they could be installed inside a realistic overnight window. Our team travelled to Riyadh for the build, calibration and rehearsal, and the stand was run with on-site technical support throughout the exhibition.

Results & Impact

The stand let visitors understand a large development at their own pace, which is exactly what a self-guided exhibition format needs.

  • Guests could explore districts independently through the tablet app, so every visitor received a full experience without requiring a presenter.
  • The 3D-printed model gave the development genuine physical scale, and the surrounding LED content gave that model life and movement.
  • The combination of curved wall, interactive table and printed model was substantial enough to function as the stand's primary draw rather than a supporting feature.
  • The three-layer approach — wall, table, model — is a repeatable format we now use for real estate and urban development exhibitions across the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this Al Thuraya project and how Ultratec4D delivers similar event technology.

What is an interactive LED table with a 3D-printed model?

It is an exhibit that combines a high-resolution interactive LED table with a physical model printed to the real dimensions of a development. In the Al Thuraya Cityscape project the model was 4m x 1.5m, and selecting a district on the table lit the corresponding 3D buildings and switched the screen content to animations of boats, people and cars moving through that district.

Why use P1.9 LED for a real estate exhibition?

P1.9 gives a fine pixel pitch that holds detail in architectural renderings and masterplan animation while still being bright and efficient for a show floor. It is the right compromise for large-format curved walls where visitors stand several metres back, and it is one of the standard specifications we use for [event LED walls](/digital-signage-expert-dubai/) in Dubai and Riyadh.

Can you build a 3D-printed city or development model for our stand?

Yes. We design and produce dimensionally accurate 3D-printed architectural and urban models as part of exhibition builds, and pair them with an interactive LED table so the physical model and on-screen content respond together. Send us your site plan or 3D file and we will advise on scale, print method and the best table configuration.

Do you deliver exhibition technology in Riyadh and other Saudi cities?

Yes. We regularly deliver full exhibition and event technology builds in Riyadh, Jeddah and across Saudi Arabia as well as the UAE, handling fabrication, freight, installation and on-site technical operation. Our Saudi work includes major real estate, aviation and government projects.

Building a stand for a large development or project?

Send us your site plan, renders and venue footprint. We will propose the right combination of LED wall, interactive table and physical model — with a build and install plan that fits your exhibition window.
